This course examines a rapidly developing area of society, providing opportunities to consider the implications and applications of communication technologies. It will appeal to those interested in social networking. It encourages an experimental and innovative approach, invaluable in your future career.
It is not a technological course; it concentrates on the human aspects of technology looking at social media, such as texting, forums and chatrooms, and how these technologies are used at work and play.
This is an opportunity to enter a new, exciting field and to combine technical skills with an understanding of how people use social networking tools.
There are many and varied opportunities for graduates of this course. Social networking is a rapidly developing area and there are many types of job opportunities ranging from employment by social networking sites to employment by businesses keen to exploit the commercial aspects. Graduates from this course might work in a range of jobs from managers and administrators of social networking tools to being involved in the design and production of the tools or acting as advisors.
Students who complete this course successfully could continue to pursue a relevant MSc. There are many opportunities for research in this new and exciting area.
A variety of assessment is used to provide feedback and determine how well learning outcomes have been achieved. These include individual and team based written assignments and presentations, on-line tests, and examinations. All assessments are carefully structured to ensure that everyone is suitably stretched and can clearly demonstrate their accomplishments. You will find the assessments challenging but rewarding.
